View on the Bierkade in the center of The Hague (de Bierkade in Den Haag), the bridge over the canal in the foreground, a coach approaching from the left, boats in the middle distance. The great orphanage (het oude Weeshuis in het Spui) is visible in the distance, at center. Curiously, a naked man is standing on the right hand side, looking at a woman, also naked, swimming in the canal in front of him.Titled in English and French at bottom, with the address of the publisher: "A perspective view of the New Drawbridge Canal, and Great Orphan House at the Hague / Vue & Perspective du Grande Bierkade &c. A la Haye. // London, Printed for Rob.t Sayer Map & Printseller at N. 53 in Fleet Street." Etching with some engraving on paper, with some margins; plate mark: 255 x 396 mm, total: 301 x 419 mm; two sheets joined together from the verso, tears along the margins, one repaired on the top right; some smudges and light staining, otherwise very nice impression.
