Every poem in this book begins, or occasionally ends, with the word 'apparently'. In conversation this word usually precedes a piece of gossip or hearsay, allowing the speaker to voice what cannot be substantiated, for in our increasingly mediated world, what is 'apparent' often has more authority than 'what actually is'. Author's debut collection was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, Author has since been poet-in-Residence at the Poetry Society cafe."

About the Author
Matthew Caley's "Thirst" (Slow Dancer, 1999) was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. Since then he has been Poet-in-Residence at the Poetry Society cafe and commended (3rd and 2nd) in separate National Poetry Competitions. His second full-length collection, "The Scene of My Former Triumph" (Wrecking Ball Press, 2005), was followed by a third, "Apparently" (2010), from Bloodaxe Books. He has also co-edited "Pop Fiction: The Song in Cinema" with Stephen Lannin (Intellect, 2005). In a previous life - in Newcastle - he designed record sleeves including Prefab Sprout's debut, Swoon. He now lives, works and writes in London.
