Unpaginated, b/w photos of wild life, tree illustrated endpapers; 4to dark green/blue cloth, modest shelf wear. Binding square and tight, contents clean, free from markings intentional or otherwise. Dust jacket shows corresponding nominal wear. Now in mylar. Photos and evocative stories as Smith won't allow his aging tree to be cut down. It is a center of life, a honey factory, a birds' hotel, a summer cafeteria, an egg hatchery, a nursery, a shelter, a battleground, a cradle. From the jacket: author was, newspaperman, high schoolteacher and principal, former marine and freelance writer and photographer: Look, Life, Audubon and several museum publications.
