Item description from seller

240 pages with 10 blank ruled leaves bound at rear. An important regional American cookbook containing hundreds of recipes from the Appledore House on the Isle of Shoals, plus others from hotels and inns in New Hampshire. 8vo, original purple cloth with gilt spine and black-stamped decorative covers (lightly scuffed and with one dent). Boston: Andrew F. Graves, 1880. New Edition. Early printing (likely 3rd). A very good(+) or better copy of this uncommon cookbook -- generally rather clean but for discoloration on 3 pages from old news clippings. "Maria Parloa (1843-1909) was an American author of books on cooking and housekeeping, the founder of two cooking schools, a lecturer on food topics, and an early figure in the "domestic science" (later "home economics") movement. A culinary pioneer, she was arguably America's first celebrity cook, considered "one of the innovative superstars of her field". --Wikipedia. This is her first book, named after the Appledore Hotel in Maine where she worked as a cook early in her career.
