Application of Six Sigma in Library and Information Science

The sole objective of any library is to make all possible efforts to achieve its goals and objectives by catering to all the needs of the users. The concept of Six Sigma is to eliminate defects and can be applied in the library science field to maximize the users' satisfaction by eliminating their complaints and problems. In today's era, the library user is known as the customer and the librarian is the information manager. If we consider a library as a corporate entity, Six Sigma would ensure the users' needs are properly and fully catered. The Six Sigma methodologies for quality improvement is a system of many concepts, tools, and principles. A gauge of quality and efficiency, Six Sigma is also a measure of excellence. Embarking on a Six Sigma program means delivering top-quality service and products while virtually eliminating all internal inefficiencies. A true Six Sigma organization produces, not only an excellent product, but also maintains highly efficient production and administrative systems that work effectively with the organization's other service processes. The primary factor in the successful implementation of a Six Sigma project is to have all the necessary resources and the support and leadership of the top management.
