خيري شلبي عمود من أعمدة الأدب العربي، كان صوتًا فريدًا يستحيل تقليده ويستحيل الاستغناء عنه - بهاء طاهر نبذة أينما توجهت في أي مكان في بلدتنا فأنت مُعرَّض للِّقاء بعمك أبو سماعين. أعرف أنك في أعماقك تضن عليه باللقب، لكن لأنك من عقلاء البلدة فإنك تخلع عليه اللقب في أريحية تدل على شهامتك وحُسن تربيتك وكرم أصلك. ولأنك أيضًا ابن ناس فأنت تنهض عن مقعدك طوعًا، وتقول له بكل أدب وتحفُّظ - خاصة إن كنت ابن مدارس تفضَّل يا عم أبو سماعين، وقد تأخذ بيده لتُجلسه مكانك، صحيح أنك في الأصل ربما كنت تزمع القيام قبل وصوله، ولكن مجرد أن تقول له تفضَّل مكاني فهو شيء يُحمد لك في أنظار كبار السن وما أكثرهم في بلدتنا. أنت ضامن أنهم بعد انصرافك سيقولون على الملأ شوف أدب الواد! حتى أبو سماعين وقف له واحترمه. يا سلام على الأخلاق!.

خيري شلبي (1938-2011) أحد أهم الكتاب والروائيين المصريين، ولد في قرية شباس عمير في محافظة كفر الشيخ. صدر له أكثر من سبعين كتابًا. حصل على العديد من الجوائز والتكريمات، من أهمها جائزة الدولة التشجيعية في الآداب ووسام العلوم والفنون من الطبقة الأولى وجائزة الدولة التقديرية في الآداب .
