Archaeologists of Memory: Vitols Contemporary Art Collection

The exhibition and this book are the first thematic insight into one of the most interesting art collections in the Baltic States, Vitols Contemporary, which focuses on contemporary art from Eastern and Central Europe and includes nearly 1,000 works by more than 150 authors. According to collectors Irina Vitola and Maris Vitols, the collection is motivated by their interest in the social and political changes in the Eastern and Central European region after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. They also highlight the cultural diversity of the region. The book includes interviews with Irina Vitola and Maris Vitols, a short story by Maarja Kangro, and an essay by Tanel Rander, and it also includes a catalogue of the works exhibited at the exhibition.
