Julian Ashworth is a renowned dream architect who specializes in creating therapeutic lucid dreams for trauma victims. For fifteen years, he has built his reputation on two unshakable principles: safety and control. He never works with nightmares, only healing sanctuaries within the landscape of sleep.
This ethical foundation crumbles when a mysterious client named E. Silas approaches him with an extraordinary commission: to design the perfect nightmare. Silas claims to represent government interests and presents compelling evidence that enemy agents with unbreakable psychological conditioning threaten mass casualties. Only a precisely engineered nightmare, he argues, can break through their mental barriers and extract vital intelligence.
Against his better judgment, Julian accepts the commission. As he begins constructing the nightmare—drawing from humanity’s deepest fears and his own subconscious terrors—the work begins to contaminate his waking life. The boundaries between dream and reality blur as impossible geometries and shadow entities from his creation begin manifesting in the physical world.
When Julian tries to sever ties with his client, he discovers that Silas has vanished without a trace. Worse, Julian finds himself trapped with a nightmare that has grown beyond his control, its central mechanism—the Heart of Dread—now pulsing with its own malevolent intelligence.
Desperate to destroy his creation, Julian enters the nightmare one final time, only to discover he has lost all architectural control and is now its prisoner. Pursued through a labyrinth of his own fears by the entities he created, Julian must navigate to the nightmare’s heart while being systematically stripped of his sanity.
