Architecture Design Library: Eastern Spirit

Steeped in tradition, symbolism, and spirituality, Eastern design offers an exoticism like no other. Japanese minimalism soothes and refreshes the soul, while the warmth of finely crafted Chinese pieces imbues rooms with subtle elegance. This fascinating sourcebook provides information and inspiration to give your home a total makeover, or simply to infuse a room with Eastern flavor. Visit traditional and contemporary Far Eastern houses to discover how the ancient design principles of geometry, definition of space, Zen restraint, and the inclusion of nature--as well as materials such as lacquer, wood, and concrete--can transform your home. Stroll through traditional Chinese courtyards and Japanese gardens to learn how to adapt the proportion, scale, and color--not to mention the latticework, covered walkways, and ornamental bridges--of these "outdoor rooms" to your own retreat. Then use the newfound knowledge of this design treasure trove to create the peaceful and serene home of your dreams.
