Architecture and Design Library: Moroccan Style (Architecture Design Library)

Take a photographic tour of the most popular periods and fashions in interior design and architecture. Each book features the insights of an expert design writer and numerous fine examples of a particular style's architectural elements, period and geographic facets, and distinguishing decorative flourishes. Stunning photography showcases both exterior and interior details to give readers a full understanding of each style. Informative and inspiring, this series presents design writing at its best. A must-have for home design enthusiasts!

These volumes give a succinct overview of their respective architecture and interior design styles. Each gives examples from the period or region that inspired the style as well as the furnishings and decorative accessories that typify it. Color photographs showing classic and contemporary examples of each style are captioned with tips on how these touches can be incorporated into today's home. The one weakness is the lack of a list of resources from which items may be purchased. However, with other titles in this series, including English Country and Art Nouveau, to name a few, the books will be useful in professional and school design libraries. Public libraries should purchase titles in areas of particular interest.

Nothing surpasses colorful and well-captioned photographs for a succinct demonstration of how to decorate in a specific style, using particular materials, and evoking special moods. Bonfante-Warren adds to the burgeoning architecture and design library by interpreting for us the essence of Moroccan decor. Under her tutelage, it becomes more than the simple whitewashed walls and ceiling fans of Rick's cafe, now filled with the pink brick colors of the ksar (fortress) walls and cobalt hlues to keep evil spirits at bay. What might at first seem like excess--rug upon rug upon tile upon tile--becomes a well-orchestrated symphony of patterns, yet boasting simple architectural lines. At the end of this paean, there's an appreciation of the artistry involved in the tiles, the weavings, the hand painting--and the peaceful parameters of Moroccan domesticity. Barbara Jacobs
