About this Item
Four stapled disbound folio album pages. Contains 20 sepia-toned albumen photographs measuring 5" x 6" and 5" x 9" with some captions. Very good with chips, tears, and spotting on the album pages and some creasing on the photographs. A small collection of photographs detailing employees of the Hibbard & Rodman Safe Company attempting to blow up a safe. The members of the company are seen surrounding their "burglar proof" safe during a trial to test its efficiency on March 2, 1899. To show how impenetrable the safe was the group assembles a wooden barricade to hold the safe and see if it would succumb to explosives. Each step of the process is photographed with the final image showing the explosion itself. An interesting assemblage of images showing a turn-of-the-century company testing their product.
