Kane's expedition set a new record for northward penetration, delineated960 miles of unexplored northern coastline, and discovering the long sought open Polar Sea. This account of the journey was first published only five years after the expedition concluded. This work is from the library of Sir Peter Markham Scott, a British naval officer, conservationist and ornithologist, and the only child of renowned Navy officer and Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott. During Robert Falcon Scott"s career he led two expeditions to the Antarctic regions, the 1901-1904 Discovery expedition, and the 1910-1913 Terra Nova expedition, on which he died. After his early death he became a celebrated hero amongst the British Public.This work bears Peter Scott"s owner"s inscription to the verso of the frontispiece.
