About this title

Synopsis

Arithmetical Institutions: A Complete System for Learning Arithmetic and Its Branches

This historical guide presents a complete system of arithmetic, including natural, logarithmical, and algebraical methods, designed to lead learners gently from first principles to advanced topics. Originally published in London in 1735, this edition offers a clear path through definitions, notations, and techniques with practical examples.

The book blends foundational math with practical instruction. It organizes content into first principles, notation, rules for computation, and the progression from simple to more complex topics. Readers will encounter practical methods, worked examples, and a structured approach to mastering arithmetic and its allied fields.
What you’ll experience

• Step-by-step explanations of core arithmetic concepts and their applications
• Structured chapters that move from basic definitions to more advanced topics
• Guidance on notation, division of quantities, and preparation of equations
• Historical context and a view of how early mathematical instruction was framed

Ideal for readers curious about the history of math, and for learners who want a concrete, methodical path through arithmetic and related subjects. Ideal for those exploring classic mathematical texts and the progression from basic principles to broader algebraic ideas.
