11" x 14" lithographed print on cardstock, with grommet at top center for hanging. Light edgewear; very good. An attractive display alerting customers that if they purchased a box of Arm & Hammer baking soda, it would come with a small card showing this snow goose, or one of dozens of other birds included in the "Useful Birds of America" series of trade cards. The cards were first introduced by Dwight and Church (Arm & Hammer's parent company) in 1888, and new sets were offered periodically through 1938. They were created by several prominent artists and featured songbirds, game birds, shore birds, and birds of prey on the front, and details about the bird's appearance, song, range, etc., on the back. Popular collectibles, these cards were both aesthetically pleasing and educational, with many cards urging Americans to protect birds and their habitats. This image is signed in the print "Hy Hintermeister," indicating it was done by one or both of the father and son painters and illustrators John Henry Hintermeister and Henry Hintermeister, who frequently worked together and shared this signature.
