Gr 4-8-Designed to explore interests, the books first ask students a number of questions about things they are good at, or like to do, related to the title. Four pages are devoted to each of 20 careers, providing information in a format similar to that in standard references such as The Occupational Outlook Handbook (JIST Works) and Encyclopedia of Careers and Vocational Guidance (Ferguson): nature of the job, education and training, earnings, and outlook. In History, "A Day in the Life" of an education director of a museum includes a 10:30 a.m. tour of the rainforest exhibit for second graders and another inset has further reading suggestions. "Exploring" boxes give practical suggestions for independent activities. Someone interested in interior design could, for example, ask their parents if they could redecorate their room and visit fabric shops or start a scrapbook of ideas from magazines (Art). Numerous Web sites, mostly professional organizations, are listed in each chapter and at the end of each volume.
