A torn off section of newspaper, reproducing Eve's portrait of Thomas Hardy, has been loosely inserted at the beginning of the plates section. The first plate has become discoloured from prolonged contact with this. All plates are present. There is a slight ripple to the roughly cut lower edge of the pageblock.
