About this Item
Tan wraps with black lettering. 12 pp. with no illustrations. Originally printed in "Old and New" of April 1870. Actually a very interesting essay to read, as major art museums in the US were only in their infancy or, in many cases, not yet open (The Met in New York only opened to the public in 1872, Philadelphia Museum of Art chartered in 1876, and the National Gallery wasn't established until 1937, etc.). Comfort also discusses the merits of museums in smaller cities such as Ithaca, Ann Arbor, Bangor, and others. In addition, he compares and contrasts cities and their museums / museum potential in Europe versus the US. Good, clean, tight contents but with general age/shelf wear to covers. Top edge of front cover and front end paper have been cut off above top border line (no print missing). Seller Inventory # 161502
