This collection of 11 scholarly articles is the first volume in a new series intended to gather together selected examples of Arthurian research in all its variety. The fields that will be covered include medieval and modern Arthurian literature, visual arts, and music. The first book is weighted heavily toward medieval Arthurian literature, with nine essays concerning the old French romances, medieval manuscripts, and Malory's Le Morte Darthur . The last two essays are refreshingly different: one discusses Arthurian elements in a 19th-century French composer's opera; the other focuses on Howard Pyle's Arthurian children's books, published at the turn of the century. Compilation of this kind is not done elsewhere. Therefore, this is an important beginning in the area of Arthurian studies. Recommended for all academic libraries and for public libraries where there is interest.
