The Artic Forests (Paperback or Softback)

"The Artic Forests" is a compelling firsthand account of the vast and rugged wilderness of the northern latitudes. Written by Michael H. Mason following his extensive travels in the early 20th century, the work provides a detailed exploration of the sub-arctic regions, particularly focusing on the territories of northern Canada and Alaska. Mason offers readers a comprehensive look at the unique ecology of the northern timberlands, documenting the diverse wildlife and the challenging environmental conditions that define life in the high north.

Beyond its natural history observations, the book serves as an important ethnographic record, detailing the lives, customs, and survival strategies of the indigenous peoples and settlers inhabiting these remote areas. From the intricacies of dog-sledging and winter travel to the seasonal shifts that dictate the rhythm of the forest, Mason's narrative captures the spirit of adventure and the raw beauty of a landscape seldom seen by the outside world. "The Artic Forests" remains a valuable resource for those interested in polar exploration, historical geography, and the enduring allure of the Great North.
