Two rare works/books bound into one physical volume. The first work/book is an anthology of 13 medical and pharmaceutical handbooks and treatises by different authors (probably all of them had already been published separately). Among other writings, the anthology includes Tarquinius Schnellenberg's "Experimenta. Von XX. Pestilentz Wurtzeln und Kreutern" (originally published in 1541; this part features 21 woodcuts of herbs), "Artzney Büchlein, wider allerley kranckheiten und gebrechen der Zene" (the first separate work on dentistry; with a title woodcut depicting a dentist), Walther Hermann Ryff's "Ein Newer Albertus Magnus" (a German translation of several parts of "Liber aggregationis"; this work features one full-page woodcut of human body, 23 woodcuts of herbs/plants and 16 woodcuts of different fetal positions during pregnancy) and "Ein Regiment der gesundtheit, Für die jungen Kinder" (with 6 woodcuts depicting mothers caring of their children). Other writings are illustrated with several title woodcuts depicting medical instruments, physicians etc. Eight leaves are missing (title, printer's preface, table of contents, leaves no. 64, 156 and 157). The second work/book is a surgical treatise on kidney and bladder stones written by Walther Hermann Ryff (d. 1548), a prolific writer on medicine and pharmacy. The work is illustrated with 17 large woodcuts (some of them identical) depicting surgical instruments, kidneys, bladder, zodiac signs etc. A complete copy. /// Leather binding with raised bands; hardback, [3]+266 leaves, [4]+LXXII+[1]+[2] leaves, 8° (14.5 x 19.5 cm), leather worn, perished and chipped, boards pasted with new endpapers, leaves yellowed and dog-eared, several leaves have small bookworm traces, several pages have minor marginalia, marking or notes written with pen or coloured pencil, some leaves have water stains (usually small), smudges, fingerprints or small tears, corners of several leaves are torn away (text is never affected), condition: good Book Language/s: German.
