A reassuring bedtime tale describing the mayhem that ensues when Donald brings his pet rabbit indoors on a particularly cold night. Needless to say, neither boy nor pet can get to sleep, and each time Donald runs downstairs to check on him, the brown-and-white bunny is into something. Blankets, stories, drinks, and midnight dances do little to tire the duo. Then, armed with the fluffiest of pillows, Donald makes a bed under the kitchen table, and together they fall asleep at last. Campbell and Barton's simple story of parental patience will strike a chord with young children, most of whom have played Rabbit's role at one time or another. Donald's cuddly solution rings as true as Rabbit's nighttime ritual, and his unflappable good humor will be envied by parents and children alike. Scriven's warm and colorful illustrations, aglow with gold tones, reiterate the loving relationship between boy and pet. Wistful Rabbit's mischief is never very bad, and Donald's efforts up and down the stairs look monumental. The illustrations, all of which bleed into the page, vary in shape and size, adding visual interest.
