Paperback. 7 1/4" X 4 3/4". 24pp. Rubbing, toning, chipping, and shallow closed tear to covers, corners, and edges of paper wraps. Spine has been repaired with archival adhesive. Penciled notation to front cover. Previous owner's stamp to title page. Age-toned pages are free of marks and notation. Binding feels tender but remains intact. Annie Besant (1847-1933) was a British socialist, feminist, activist, and writer who played a prominent role in the Theosophical Society, a spiritual movement that aimed to unite humanity through the study of religion, philosophy, and science. She was a vocal advocate for women's suffrage, workers' rights, and the nationalization of industry, and supported Indian independence, birth control, and sex education. Besant published over 300 books and pamphlets on a variety of topics, including Theosophy, which she wrote extensively about and rose to become the society's president in 1907.
