Assembling Enclosure: Transformations in the Rural Landscape of Post-Medieval North-East England

A groundbreaking re-assessment of landscape history in North-East England using Actor-Network Theory. This book fills a gap in the landscape history of North-East England, re-assessing enclosure and improvement through the lens of Actor-Network Theory (ANT).

Ronan O'Donnell reveals how local actors, including landowners, tenants, and the landscape itself, contributed to landscape transformation. By exploring the social, economic, and environmental factors at play,

• Understand the complex processes of landscape change in Northumberland.
• Re-assess familiar historical topics with new theoretical frameworks.
• Discover the local factors contributing to broader historical trends.

This book transforms our understanding of landscape creation in Northumberland and offers wider implications for studying enclosure in other regions.
