Fantasy Book was a semi-professional American science fiction magazine that published eight issues between 1947 and 1951. The editor was William Crawford, and the publisher was Crawford's Fantasy Publishing Company, Inc. Crawford had problems distributing the magazine, and his budget limited the quality of the paper he could afford and the artwork he was able to buy, but he attracted submissions from some well-known writers, including Isaac Asimov, Frederik Pohl and L. Ron Hubbard. Includes writing by Isaac Asimov, Stanton A. Coblentz, James MacCreigh, Cordwainer Smith, Alfred J. Coppel Jnr, Basil Wells & Gene Ellerman. Includes cover art by John Brian Francis "Jack" Gaughan who was an American science fiction artist and illustrator and multiple winner of the Hugo Award in the category of Best Professional Artist. UK Semiprozine, irregular, three issues, published by Richard Newcombe, W Publishing, Peterborough; #1 (Summer) 1989 in pocketbook format edited by Maureen Porter (with help from the Peterborough Science Fiction Club); subsequent issues, #2 undated (Summer 1990) and #3 December 1990, A4 format, edited by Paul Cox. Besides fiction it ran film reviews by Kim Newman and book reviews by various hands. Includes writing by: James White, Brian Stableford, Alex Stewart, David Mace, Richard Paul Russo, Stratford A. Kirby, Kim Newman & Paul Kincaid. Includes cover art by Steve Kyte, a British artist known for his work on Thunderbirds: The Comic and the Channel 5 VHS sleeves of Thunderbirds. He also contributed art for the Thunderbirds: Collectors Edition comics. Mystery: Vol. 1, #1 (June 1976). Published by Looking Glass Publications, edited by Eric Potter. Avon Science Fiction & Fantasy Reader: Vol. 1, #2 (April 1953). Avon published three related magazines in the late 1940s and early 1950s, titled Avon Fantasy Reader, Avon Science Fiction Reader, and Avon Science Fiction and Fantasy Reader. These were digest size magazines (sometimes classed as a series of anthologies) which reprinted science fiction and fantasy literature by now well-known authors. They were edited by Donald A. Wollheim and published by Avon. Featuring writing by: Milton Lesser, Arthur C. Clarke, John Christopher, John Jakes, Jack Vance, William Vine, Irving E. Cox Jnr, Henderson Starke, Alan Payne, Noah Gordon, Stephen Marlowe & Dr. R. S. Richardson. Also features cover art by Leo Manso, painter, collagist, and graphic artist, born in 1914 in New York City. He studied at the National Academy of Design from 1929-1930, and at the New School for Social Research. Manso taught at Cooper Union, New York University, Columbia University and at the University of Michigan. Wonder Stories - Science Fiction Anthology: Vol. 45, #1 (1957). After the demise of Thrilling Wonder Stories in Winter 1955, the Wonder Stories title was resuscitated for a reprint magazine, subtitled "An Anthology of the Best in Science Fiction" and edited by Jim Hendryx Jr. There appeared only two widely separated issues, dated 1957 and 1963, the first a Digest, the second a Pulp. These continued the Thrilling Wonder numeration, as volume 45, #1 and #2. Includes writing by: Ray Bradbury, John D. MacDonald, Arthur C. Clarke, Fredric Brown, Kurt Vonnegut Jnr, Walt Sheldon, Margaret St Clair & Anthony Boucher. Also features fantastic cover art by Richard M.
