Assyrian Deeds and Documents Recording the Transfer of Property, Vol. 3: Including the So-Called Private Contracts, Legal Decisions and Proclamations . Chiefly of the 7th Century B. C.; Money Loa

This book is a study of Assyrian economic and legal documents dating from the 7th century BCE. Central to the volume are the ‘simple loans’ – or money advances – meticulously recorded on clay tablets. Through them, the author provides an intimate view of Assyrian society, analysing thousands of these contracts to reveal a rich tapestry of personal, economic and legal transactions. This volume of transcribed and translated texts is the third in a series, and critically evaluates the significance of the loans and their wider implications for our understanding of ancient trade, economics, and finance, inviting readers to explore the complexities that lie within these simple records.
