The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway, also known simply as the Santa Fe or AT&SF, was a railroad that was chartered in 1859 to serve the cities of Atchison and Topeka, Kansas and Santa Fe, New Mexico. It eventually came to include branch lines in Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and others parts of Kansas and New Mexico. AT&SF ceased operations in 1996 when it merged with Burlington Northern Railroad to form the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway (BNSF).
