Atkinson Sign Painting Up to Now. A Complete Manual of the Art of Sign Painting

Chicago, Frederick J. Drake & Company, 1915 [second edition]/ 1909. Large oblong quarto, [iv], 356 pages, extensively illustrated (pages 49-245 printed rectos only). Cloth lettered in black on the spine, with the front cover attractively printed and decorated in three colours in a manner befitting the subject matter; cloth bumped at the corners, and a little worn and marked (including, on the front cover, a paint-can ring and a blob of paint with some paper adhered to it - but curiously, their colours of dark green and salmon-pink blend in with the colour printing); new endpapers; minimal signs of age and use internally; overall, a very good copy. The balance of the lengthy title is 'contains Ninety Six Designs or Layouts & Accompanying Color Notes - Seventy Five Alphabets embracing All Standard Styles, their Modifications & Alternates - comprehensive Text covering All Practical Phases of the Art - for Every Day Reference in the Shop'.
