With its wide variety of natural environments, Cameroon has one of the highest levels of biodiversity in Africa. Since 1998, a team of specialists has undertaken a systematic collection of new herpetological data throughout the country. The present "Atlas des reptiles du Cameroun" summarizes the results of this important project. In combination with data from museum and bibliographic sources, these allow the inclusion of 285 species of reptiles from more than 1000 localities. For each species, identification characteristics, distribution, biogeographical affinities and conservation status are clearly presented, along with succinct biological data, a photograph and a map. This Atlas represents an important step towards a better understanding of the still poorly understood African herpetological fauna. Paris.
