Synopsis

There are two schools of thought with regard to the coaching of young soccer players. One puts the emphasis on technique. The other is based on the situations that occur in real matches. It deals with the development of soccer insight in the context of a given system of play, while also incorporating the coaching of technical skills.

About the Author

Henk Mariman has been involved in amateur soccer for a number of years. He took a job as youth trainer at Belgian premier club Sporting Lokeren. Here he also handled the match analysis for the first team. Presently, he is head youth trainer for another Belgian premier League side, Germinal Beerschot, which has a close philosophical relationship with Ajax Amsterdam, sharing many of the legendary Dutch club's ideas on training youth players. He is a frequent contributor to the Dutch coaching magazine De VoetballTrainer and organizes coaching clinics throughout Holland and Belgium.
