K-Gr 4-Today's children are familiar with the terms ADD, attention deficit disorder, and ADHD, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Both conditions are difficult to diagnose as most children tend to exhibit some of the ADD or ADHD behaviors from time to time. Thus, it would seem important to have materials to explain the conditions and foster understanding and tolerance of it. However, this title may be too clinical, too medically detailed with its explanations of how the brain works, and too intent on presenting ways to cope with the conditions for the intended audience-elementary school age children. Color photographs show this age group acting out and distracted and other youngsters reacting and responding. With a glossary of medical terms, bibliography, and online sites, this book would be best for adults working with ADD children to share in a positive manner.-Pamela K.
