389 pages; decorated dark brown cloth boards (approximately 9 1/4" by 6") with gilt spine title and small gilt vignette; embossed Boston seal in gilt to front cover; printer's embossed logo to rear cover; very old florid ink signature to top of front free endpaper, which also has an old ink price; old bookseller's small, attractive sticker to rear pastedown; edge-wear to extremities; corners bumped with a few mild dings to cover edges; some light soiling to covers; endpapers soiled/foxed; one-quarter inch black ink spot to fore-edge, slightly affecting the margins of several leaves; pages uniformly age-toned/browned with occasional brown spots to margins; text remains bright; binding is tight and sound; overall, a very good copy; contents cover all aspects of Boston's city finances, including its approximately $5 million budget, all city assets, debts, Ways and Means report, Fourth of July expenses, Franklin Funds, Houses of Industry and Reformation, Poor Widows' Fund, Library, Winthrop School House, New City Stables, Telegraphic Fire Alarms, Lunatic Hospital,Horse Railroads, Phillips Fund, Schools, Water Works, Townsend Fund, Meridian Bells, Soldiers' Relief, Free Vaccination, Webb Fund, Napoleon's Reception, War Expenses ("Expenditures incurred by the City in consequence of the War occasioned by the Southern Rebellion," including "Railroad Tickets and other Expenses incurred on account of released Rebel Prisoners"), and all manner of city income and expenses.
