Johnston, Published in Boston, by the Editor of the Galaxy of Wit, Sold in Philadelphia by John Grigg, and Carey and Hart and in New York by Elam Bliss, 1831, 216 pp, modern binding, 6.75 x 4 , 18mo. In fair condition. Sturdy, modern binding with fresh end papers. Interior toned with moderate foxing. Soiling and scattered staining throughout. Light offsetting from illustrations. Leaves 196-200 are loose. Binding remains intact. Free of known markings. Please see photos. Volume of humorous and satirical sketches, illustrated by David Claypoole Johnston (1798-1865), an artist known as the American Cruikshank. William Murrell, author of A History of American Graphic Humor calls Johnston one of our foremost ante-bellum humorous draughtsmen, and he produced many satirical prints on a variety of subjects during his long career.
