An earlier edition was published in 1860 but with a different title, so first thus. 4 x 6" pp. [4] + 380. Very good in half morocco over red boards. Top edge gilt. Boards slightly rubbed. Firm and tight. Contents clean, with no stains, marks, labels, stamps or inscriptions. Some helpful bibliographical information in pencil on ffep. No dust wrapper. Nicholson was a larger than life Victorian: impresario, gambler, publican (of the Coal Hole in the Strand in London), bankrupt, prisoner, pornographer, writer, satirist, and performer.
