Bifolium, 5.75 x 4.5" when folded, 3 pp. An important autograph letter by English poet and critic Coventry Patmore, to photographer Julia Margaret Cameron. Patmore was an early admirer of Cameron, who produced a photograph of Patmore's wife Emily, titled "The Angel in the House," the same name as Patmore's influential 1854 poem. This letter thanks Cameron for "your magnificent photograph of Emily," praises Cameron's work, and offers advice: "you ought to make your collection such that no question can arise, even in the non-artistic mind, of the great success you have achieved. If you had, say forty quite unquestionable works--all equal in their way to your 'Sphinx Madame," and the "Georgione"--there could be no doubt of the result of an exhibition."
