Autograph Letter, signed ("Kate Millett"), June 12, '76, to Harcourt Brace editor John Ferrone, accepting an invitation and discussing her recent essay in Le Monde

Ink on paper, two pages. 16mo. A choice letter from feminist Kate Millett, author of Sexual Politics (1970), to Harcourt Brace editor John Ferrone, reading in part: "You may indeed take me to lunch, whenever you like. Your letter was wonderful (Returning from a trip I opened it before I saw the one from Herself - and it thrilled me.) But hers was unutterably precious. Both of you responding so kindly and quickly to my little piece for Le Monde." Millett's piece for Le Monde, on the Diaries of Anaïs Nin, was Portrait de l'Artiste en Femme, Nous sommes toutes des Anaïs" (11 June 1976), where Millett recited a litany of prominent American literary women and noted the presence of Nin "like a mother to us all, a goddess, an elder sister" (qui nous est à toutes une mère aussi bien qu'une déesse et une s?ur aînée). Ferrone was the editor of Nin's long series of Diaries. Safe to say that Herself was Nin.
