Single leaf, recto only, with autograph envelope. This receipt ("vale") totaling MX$51 (fifty-one Mexican pesos) for "gastos de Coyoacán" (Coyoacán bills), to be applied against Rivera's account ("a mi cuerta") at Central de Publicaciones, were likely costs or expenses for his studio in the Coyoacán section of Mexico City. Central de Publicaciones was an art book publishing house run by Alberto Misrachi, a bookseller whose shop was a locus of international political and artistic activity. Inspired by the works of the Mexican Muralists, he opened an art gallery in 1937, where he sold the work of emerging artists such as Rivera; his wife, Frida Kahlo; José Clemente Orozco; David Alfaro Siqueiros; Rufino del Carmen Arellanes Ramayo; Remedios Varo; and others. Held in an envelope with an autograph note by Misrachi's son, Carlos,translating the Spanish receipt into English, along with an explanation of the small approval annotation of his father, located to the right of Rivera's signature.
