1 1/2 pages. 1 vols. Sm. 4to. Associated with the Pre-Raphaelites and close friends with Rossetti, Victor Hugo and François Coppée, O'Shaughnessy published only a few poetical works but is well recognized for his "Music and Moonlight," and "An Epic of Women." Best known as the author of the poem beginning "We are the music-makers,/And we are the dreamers of dreams…" Curiously, O'Shaughnessy was an expert in herpetology at the British Museum Zoological Department and though initially untrained, his herpetological papers were well received. Six quinque-linear verses, the first reading"If one should give me a hear to keep,/With love for the golden key,/The giver might live at ease or sleep;/ If should ne're know pain, be weary, or weep,/The heart watch'd over by me".
