Automatic Data Processing Seminar for Federal Executives (Classic Reprint)

This book addresses the use of Automatic Data Processing in federal agencies, and is a record of a seminar on the topic. The author describes how automatic data processing systems came to be born out of the climate of the time, which saw a huge rise in office workers and a failure in the office equipment industry to provide updated tools. The text provides a look at how the federal government was (and is) using automatic data processing systems, with breakdowns by civilian and military applications. Some specific military and civilian examples, such as the Treasury check reconciliation job and an application at the Navy's Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania Ships Parts Control Center, illustrate the extent of the transformation. The book takes a sober and realistic look at the pros and cons, costs and benefits of automatic data processing, providing a valuable resource for anyone seeking to understand the integration of automatic data processing into federal agencies.
