What if the Bible does not ask you to fear your own will—but to learn how to use it without possessing anyone else’s?
The Autonomy of Is begins with a deceptively simple proposition:
Wherever there is is-ness, there is an inside.
From the divine name revealed to Moses to the New Testament vision of all things holding together in Christ, William Andrzejewski asks what follows if created beings are genuinely real before God: distinct, dependent, accountable—and never merely objects for someone else’s use.
The result is a bold but deeply biblical theology of being, freedom, power and love.
This is not an argument for the sovereign individual who owes nothing to anyone. Nor does it treat every desire as sacred, every refusal as wise or every form of authority as oppressive. Instead, it asks whether divine sovereignty itself establishes rather than abolishes creaturely reality.
If God creates beings who can answer, refuse, repent, covenant, love and be reconciled, then their wills must matter.
And if another person’s will matters before God, no religious leader, parent, partner, ruler, institution or majority gains ownership of it simply by claiming superior wisdom, authority or righteousness.
Through sustained engagement with scripture, The Autonomy of Is explores:
-
the divine name and the freedom of God;
-
creation as genuinely distinct without existing outside divine life;
-
image, breath, consciousness and creaturely interiority;
-
Rahab and the moral agency of people respectable religion may reduce to labels;
-
slavery, patriarchy, submission, obedience and conscience;
-
the difference between authority and possession;
-
Christ’s refusal of domination and the meaning of the washing of feet;
-
salvation without self-erasure;
-
self-denial without sanctifying self-hatred or abuse;
-
evil as the parasitic misuse of received being;
-
judgement, hell and the possibility of the second death;
-
and the final biblical hope of God all in all without God becoming all instead of all.
The book does not avoid the difficult texts. Conquest, divine command, Romans 9, Romans 13, church authority, punishment and Revelation’s lake of fire are allowed to exert their full pressure.
Nor does it pretend that every conclusion is equally certain. Direct scriptural claims, theological synthesis and philosophical inference are carefully distinguished.
At the centre stands Yeshua: the Lord who commands without becoming a tyrant, knows without ceasing to ask, possesses all authority without treating people as possessions, and conquers by giving himself rather than consuming others.
The Autonomy of Is is written for believers, doubters, biblical literalists, religious outsiders, survivors of coercive faith, and anyone who has ever wondered whether becoming closer to God requires becoming less fully themselves.
Its conclusion is demanding rather than permissive:
Your will is real. So is everyone else’s.
Freedom is not independence from truth, responsibility or love.
But neither truth, responsibility nor love gives one created being the right to erase another.
Nothing needs to become less real for God to be God.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone.
