In the conclusion to our 2014 book Avoiding Death Taxes, we compared the struggle between wealthy individuals and U.S. governments over the disposition of their wealth to the famous battle between David and Goliath. In December 2017, Congress passed and President Trump signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (the “Tax Act”), thereby changing many rules. By passing the Tax Act, Goliath introduced new weapons and strategies into David’s already extensive arsenal.
