Synopsis
Trainers, behaviorists, and big businesses have embraced the liberal use of positive techniques, philosophies and equipment for decades. This a good thing! We don't need to use barbaric or harsh methods in teaching our beloved dogs. However ... accompanying this is the buzz about leadership, alpha statuses and advice on what we should or shouldn't, feed our dogs, when to feed them, how much to feed them and how much to spend - a lot.
Are you ready to implode with all the choices? Well, imagine how our dogs feel? So I wrote a book, backed by over 20 years of experience, trying everything, learning from mistakes, and letting go of what does not work. I asked and observed my dogs. What do they really need, want or care about? It is very individual and personal.
Awareness Centered Training - ACT - is used to teach the therapy dog teams at New England Pet Partners, Inc. ACT goes beyond the positive. It easily integrates joyful training into daily living and learning with our dogs using techniques that make sense for individual dogs and dog parents. This includes Socialization and Manners (SAM), how dog's learn, how we communicate with them and them with us ... and much more ...
Do you suffer from sensory overload and stress? So do our dogs! Are you multi-tasking, grappling with the environment on dog walks, arguing with friends and family over your pet's behaviors? STOP!
Get relief! ACT gives us permission to get back to basics, breathing, eating, playing, smiling and choosing what works best (approaches, toys, equipment, nutrition and well-being) without going insane or broke.
ACT has been positively reviewed in Animal Wellness Magazine and Latham Foundation. The Certification of Professional Dog Trainers and Association of Pet Dog Trainers have asked for a book that will educate dogs and help new dog trainers learn - ACT does!
Mostly, ACT is for all puppy/dog parents who want to learn more about themselves in the process of training their dogs with balance, relationship, education and well-being at the heart of the experience.
Taking in a deep-nose-to-navel breath, let go and flow with Awareness Centered Training - ACT. When you train with awareness, unhealthy patterns and behaviors (people and dogs) begin to vanish. This is not because of a tool or book, social media, guru, or life doing something to you and your dog. It's because you and your dog are doing something different together - communicating. Enjoy the Journey.
