Reprint. 24mo. 169pp. Red cloth titled in gilt and black. Tiny inked notations and underlining on several pages, hinges cracked, soiling on boards and endpapers, good only. Anti-Catholic literature claiming to expose the sexual abuse of nuns and infanticide at a convent in Montreal. Supposedly very little of the story was written by Maria and according to her mother Maria's only known contact with a Catholic institution was as an inmate of the Magdalene asylum in Montreal. It was after leaving the asylum she met William K. Hoyte who was the head of the the Canadian Benevolent Society that was engaged in anti-Catholic activism. Apparently it was Hoyt along with Rev. J. J. Slocum, Rev. George Bourne, Theodore Dwight, and others who collectively wrote the *Awful Disclosures* with Maria contributing the details from the asylum.
