Hardcover. What is a city if not a big network of flows, relations and interactions? This book invites you to a journey through Barcelona's network of creators and the spaces where they work. The photographs show workshops and studios, along with portraits of the people who work in them. Some of the spaces are immaculate, tidy and modern; others are chaotic, motley and devoid of clues as to what activity they might accommodate. The occupants of the workshops appear in separate photographs. The body on one hand and the evidence of its activity on the other. But the most interesting thing is the osmosis among the whole. When one believes one is contemplating a chemist's laboratory, it turns out to be Ferran Adria's kitchen; what looks like a junkman's premises or a rubbish collection facility is a designer's goldmine; a jungle of wiring is not a scientific research centre but a musician's studio; what seems like a travel agency, replete with computers, is the headquarters of Vasava, graphic designers. What is a city if not a big network of flows, relations and interactions? This book invites you to a journey through Barcelona's network of creators and the spaces where they work. The photographs show workshops and studios, along with portraits of the people who work in them. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

About this title

Synopsis

Welcome to the network--and welcome to the city. For what is a city, if not an immense network of flows, relationships, and interactions? Barcelona Lab examines this weave of inertia and asks how it is implicated in the configuring of a collective space, and what physical spaces arise out of the impulses of this network. What are the physical and organic origins of these activities? It asks questions about the work space, about the small laboratories from whence worlds are constructed, worlds full of references and mechanisms for action. Who are the people who work in these places and what are the links that exists between all of these people and their work?
