About this Item

First published in 1898. Oblong 8vo. (20 cm.) 78p. Profusely illustrated with black and white full-page photos (more ore less every other page). Opposite each photo is a paragraph of text describing what is depicted. Lists of names on various memorial tablets. Light blue wrappers printed in purple and tied with a purple cord. Wrappers slightly faded, cord all there but ends unraveling, corners square and flat, slight transfer from front wrapper to title page (which has the appearance of foxing), near fine to fine with no internal markings. This booklet contains a wealth of information about St. Michael's Episcopal Church, including damage from the cyclone of 1885, the earthquake of 1886 and the shell which entered the Chancel during the bombardment of Charleston from Morris Island by General Gillmore in 1865. There are also photos of the mechanism for operating the famous bells, as well as the clock. Lots of information on this famous and important Charleston church. Bookseller Inventory # 008220
