From Library Journal
Hamilton lists and describes more than 1000 institutions, activities, and events in New York City that are free. She also includes daily and monthly calendars listing regularly scheduled activities. The basic arrangement is by type of institution and the final sections cover special activities for children and for seniors. Each listing includes a descriptive paragraph itemizing unique or interesting features. Hamilton designates top attractions with four stars, lesser ones with three, two, or one. All five boroughs are included within each category. Museum admission policies are explained, including the ``suggested contribution'' notice found in many. Hamilton's style is informal and highly readable. The book is illustrated with 50 line drawings and 11 city maps. A useful resource for public and college libraries.
