About this Item

Description:

[4],138,[2]pp. Dbd. Spine reinforced with paper strip. Light tanning, an occasional marginal flaw. Old institutional ink stamp on half title, blue and black pencil annotations on titlepage. Very good plus. David B. Warden was one of the first great collectors of Americana. All of his books were assembled in Europe, where he spent most of his career as American consul in Paris. He formed two collections, one sold to Harvard after he issued a collection catalogue in 1820, and this second collection, advertised through this catalogue of 1100 items. Failing to sell it through this catalogue, he issued a second edition in 1840 which placed the collection at the New York State Library, where it was destroyed by fire in 1911.
