A rare Black Forest shelf clock with knife sharpener automaton. Recently restored, perfectly working. Excellent condition. This clock with a complex automaton mechanism was probably crafted by Gordian Hettich Sohn, Furtwangen, circa 1870-1890, as it is suggested by the description of a very similar clock kept in the German Clock Museum in Furtwangen im Schwarzwald (Deutsches Hurenmuseum Furtwangen). This rare type of Black Forest clock is thoroughly illustrated by Justin J. Miller in his monograph study "Rare and Unusual Black Forest Clocks" (Schiffer Publishing, Limited, 2012).
