The cover illustration is by Amanda Feilding, who also performed the procedure a few months later. After meeting the Dutch psychedelic guru Bart Huges (who had performed his own trepanation a few years earlier), Mellen attempts his own ultimate head trip, the bore hole. This work details Mellen?s personal exploration of trepanation, both as a physical and philosophical act.
