Ellsberg, Commander Edward. ON THE BOTTOM Literary Guild, NY, 1929. 8vo., cloth, DJ (designed by E. McKnight Kauffer for the Literary Guild), pictorial endpapers, 324pp. The book Fine, the DJ Very Good, with a few tears and small losses. The book recounts the salvage of a US Navy submarine sunk in a collision with another ship, with the loss of its entire crew of 34. Ellsberg, 1891-1983 was a naval officer who served in both World Wars. He wrote numerous books, fiction and non-fiction, about ships, including a trilogy of novels about salvaging gold.
