Breaking through God's Silence

Breaking Through God's Silence invites us all - believers and seekers alike - to recognize a higher power in our lives, even as it helps us to break through our own solitude. David Yount, the former chairman of the College of Preachers in Washington, and the widely acclaimed author of Growing in Faith, inspires us to seek self-knowledge, to reach out to others, and to face adversity with strength and joy - all through the power of effective prayer.
Although fewer than half of Americans pray together in churches, synagogues, and mosques, nearly all of us pray alone, seeking God quietly, sometimes desperately, often uncertainly, but always hoping to break through his apparent silence and get an answer.
From childhood, many Americans memorize a few prayers which are intended to be repeated aloud in public but which sound stilted and impersonal when uttered in their minds. As adults, many Americans lack confidence that they pray with the proper attitude or words. Breaking Through God's Silence provides that confidence, demystifying prayer and identifying practical entry points to conversing with God.
With effective guidelines that anyone can follow, Breaking Through God's Silence illustrates how the practice of prayer creates a confident, self-directed life. Based on mainstream Christian theology, and including more than 100 prayers from all traditions, it will be welcomed by believers and skeptics alike, becoming a permanent treasure to be consulted again and again.
